The Canberra community donated most of the equipment we have and we really appreciate your kindness, which is at the heart of the Toolbox.

We can accept

• New or gently-used tools and equipment that people are likely to borrow for garden, DIY, cooking/food preservation, hobby or outdoor leisure adventures.

• New consumables (e.g. sanding belts, sharp blades) if they fit the equipment we have or our members can use them.

• Items on our wishlist (below)

How to donate

Get in touch with us and we can try to give you quick answer. Otherwise, we accept donations during opening hours (see the footer).

Please do not leave donations outside of opening hours.

At the time of donation, you can let us know if you will want it back later, so we can record your contact details with the item. We cannot guarantee that we can give the item back, or what the condition of the item will be.

Equipment we are not taking

We try to take most items but we have a wide selection now so have to turn away more things. And we can'not accept certain things for liability reasons. We reserve the right to turn away, redistribute, or sell items we cannot use, easily service/repair, or have space to store.

• Anything rusty, broken or modified (this is especially true for electrical items)

• Large items we cannot store or handle easily (but please ask us first - who knows)

• Petrol-powered items

• Anything that we don’t think will be very popular

• Liquids, adhesives, caulks, paints, or other messy building materials.

• Chainsaws

• DIY Garden mulcher/chipper

• Angle grinders

• Corded drills

• Circular & jig saws

• Mobility aids

• Food dehydrators

• Garden blower/vacuum

• Most Ozito and Aldi brands (e.g. Workzone, Ferrex, Taurus) - but if it is in excellent condition and we don’t have one, we might take it.

If we can’t take it

• Fix it at a local repair cafe. See Canberra Repair Cafe, Hawker Community Repair Cafe, Tuggeranong Repair Cafe.

• Swap or donate it on your local Buy Nothing Facebook group.

• Consider selling it on Gumtree, Ebay, or Facebook Marketplace.

• Rent it out via Rosella Street. ​​
